The Tree of Life

Hello everyone. Did you watch "The Tree of Life"? Seems like it's the question I got most often during the past week. And to make things clear, but not only, Yes!!! I watched it and Yes!!! In my humble opinion it is indeed a great film, though of course as usual there aren't many people out there who share my opinion.

So with what can I possibly begin? Think the fact that the director of this wonderful movie is none other than Terrence Malick who directed the very good "The Thin Red Line" (about him and his movies a bit later). If you didn't watch any of his movies I would still advise to watch "The Tree of Life", just because it's one of those movies that stands out. And when I say stands out, I really mean it.

When we started watching it with my wife we were like "what the hell is this". Indeed, the beginning of the movie, though extremely beautiful, might not appeal to everyone out there (no spoilers, but I really think that most of the people watching this film will want to skip the first hour). But if you are patient, open to something new and in short open - minded, I really think that you start picking up the idea behind Malick's "chef d'oeuvres". I personally have never watched a movie in which a synthesis of childhood memories and the way we reminisce this moments were shot better than here. I think what I mean by this is that watching this movie, you can easily recall how from time to time you catch yourself remembering how in childhood you jumped down your bed, played with friends, had a first injury, heartbreak  shame, rapture...

I mean all this memories come up to you and the way you perceive them is not all that clear, nut rather have a blurry image in front of your eyes. And all this is very  well presented in "The Tree of Life " with that kind of mastery of "the art of flashbacks". A film that really makes take into retrospective your relationship to your childhood which is an activity definitely something I  feel like doing from time to time.
