Arbitrage

Remember the once "sexiest man on the planet", Richard Gere? Hearing people say, "What? When? Why?" especially the #hipsters;-). Well believe it or not he was. Moreover he is really a great actor and Arbitrage is a great example of that. Just take you time to read this one right here and find out why. Though many people out there remember him as the guy in Pretty Woman, Richard Gere goes way beyond that when it comes to acting and having an outstanding filmography. Wouldn't bother you with all the details and complete list of what there is to watch with his participation, but it should be known that he is really and amazing actor and one that can be thought of as being picky about his roles.

Will start by making a strange analogy of this movie with Cosmopolis, a movie about which I would love to write one day, but guess I'm still too stupid to understand it. Perhaps not stupid, but Cosmopolis is really "out there", in a place beyond my understanding :-(.Indeed, both movies portray men of power going through their day and facing challenges men of their calibre usually face. The only difference is that in Arbitrage, the plot, setting and characters actually make sense and have a logical sequencing. It gets you thinking that all those Limos we see in parking lots in Wall Street are not there just for the fun of it. That there are actual people there, people with problems and issues, people like you and I. That they are people with families, friends, lovers and everything else. As strange as it may sound this kind of setting is really interesting, as I said earlier not only because we get to see the life of rich men and women, but actually witness the fact that they are vulnerable and imperfect as well. Though this might be a normal notion to many, my thought was that the wealthier a person is, the smother his life flows. Don't want to spoil anything, but Arbitrage shows that I was damn wrong,

Nevertheless, Arbitrage isn't all about watching the daily life of a multimillionaire. That would have been boring, right? It's all about sacrifice I think or rather what people are ready to sacrifice in order to get out of shame and prison. Considering the fact that the person involved in this dilemma is a multi - billionaire, things really get heated up. So much heated up in fact that the story and flow of the movie doesn't let you go.

So, if you are into some insider - like movie with a lot of twists and turns, Arbitrage is what you are looking for. As usual, waiting for your thoughts and feedback :-)

The Zeigeist Movement

Hello everyone, don't even know where to start from with this post right here. Guess it's got to be from the very beginning, right? Well, there was a time I was still young and stupid having as only dream to buy a BMW and have a lot of dough, please bear with me, I'm a changed man, now!!!. And one of the reasons that took me there is The Zeitgeist Movement and Peter Joseph (a bit later about him). As I was saying, was stupid back then, but karma probably felt pity on me and blessed my with a viewing of Zeitgeist the movie. An experience which to this date remains one of the most life - changing experiences I had. Strange, right? Especially if you consider the fact that not so many people out there watched it and you can't call this movie a popular one, we can blame the biased nature of media these days for this situation. In fact, I think we can blame the biased nature of our media for many aspects talked over in the movie and project.

Watch here
If you haven't watched this movie yet, you should know one important thing first, this movie opens doors which were closed and never to be opened. Doors both in the material and spiritual realm. In fact Zeitgeist touches issues such as religion, politics, society and most important of all - money. It crashed down all ideas I had about liberty, freedom of speech, prospects I had for my future and much more. Crashed, but not in a destructive way. Indeed, I actually had quite a rebirth kind of experience and sort of rebooted my perception of society and mankind. You see, the thing is that many people today, including myself, think that the world evolves in a normal pace and that majority of things going wrong with society today are a normality. For instance what is going on in Africa today or the situation we have with our economy were emphasis is done on competition and exploitation. But is it just the way it is or there are much deeper things involved, maybe the situation can be changed provided we make an effort to change it. Perhaps there will be no need for war as an only means of resolving conflict, or no need for the immense penitentiary complex we have today. I mean when you look at the stats it seems that the whole world is going to end up in prison for one reason or the other. Moreover, there might be something that can be done to remedy the situation we have with disease today. Is it that all diseases are that incurable or like it was shown by Buzynski, it's just a matter of pharmaceutical companies not wanting to produce or back up real breakthroughs in medicine. Why would they want to do that when there are so many lives we can save. The short answer is money, and for no there hasn't been any politician, official, leader who has actually tried to remedy all these issues. Of course you might refer to different political movement like communists, socialists, capitalists and so on, and might even won't to take sides with some of this ideologies, but the thing is that none of them actually addresses the core of the problem which is money. No one except The Zeitgeist Movement.

Watch here
As usual I wouldn't go into the details of the production and so on, or about the amazing direction this documentary has, but would rather concentrate on the way I perceived this information. The way it changed my life and opinion on a range of issues. So, money - money - money, that seems to be the issue right? And the thing I found most revealing about this was that the very idea we have about money is wrong. Let me put it this way, when we think about money, we assume that it is the only means we have to trade in an equitable manner, right? We also, for some reason assume that due to the fact that all resources in the world today are limited, there must be a way of controlling access to them, hence money. But what if this was wrong, what if there was an alternative to this status quo, what if we actually live in a world of abundance and there's no need for money at all? Crazy, right? But believe me it is really possible not only to imagine this, but actually create a society like that, provided we make an effort, provided we open up to a higher much more humane realm.

Watch here
The claim that The Zeitgeist Movement makes is a simple one. As I said before the claim they seems to make is that humans by their nature are not competitors who are ready to eat each other in order to achieve some personal greatness or what have you. All this might have been true before when there were all this wars and conquerors and when indeed the human race lived in constant lack of food, shelter and so on. But take a look at the society we live in today. Does it really look like a society lacking something? My guess will be that it's not. And take a look at the state our technology is in today, does it look like we still need manual labour with poor remuneration to keep the world going round? I think, no! In fact like it is said in Zeitgeist, I think if we really wanted we could automate almost all manual labour in several years and free people from this monotonous lifestyle and all it leads to and that will be a good thing. This myth that people won't know what to do if they had no work is simply stupid. Why do people go in for guitar lessons on weekends? Is it that they get paid for it? I think no. Or why does a teacher like myself blog about this and that, it's not that I earn money from it, actually I don't, but I still do it. So, perhaps it is possible for people to live on a money free society.

The same rhetoric goes for almost all aspect of our life and Zeitgeist gives solutions, answering questions which are were left unanswered by modern day politics. I can go on and on about this movie, this experience, but I guess it will be best if you watched it for yourself. Waiting for your feedback. Peace, Love and Unity...

The perks of being a wallflower

Had an excellent movie recommendation the other day, something that happens rarely these days. Remember Ken Park? I would say that this is a light version of the latter in the sense that it's all that crude and raw especially when it comes to the grande finale of the movie (promise no spoilers), but still a great depiction of teenage-hood, problems connected with this age and of course sexuality which is as I said before one of those themes people prefer not talking about. That's right, I still think that these days, most people are still "blocked" when it comes to talking about sex. Why? Don't know, but fact is fact and I guess we just have to deal with it, right?

So, The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, right? As usual wouldn't bore you with the cast (amazing by the way) nor the directing and so on, but would rather dive into the plot and personal perception of this amazingly thought provoking and perhaps mind blowing movie. Beginning with the title, you get the idea that it will all be about suffering and complexes connected to teenage-hood.Just remember your school years and think carefully about your classmates. I'm sure you all remember a kid or two who was always quiet, introverted and closed. Usually I was such a kid. But then when you go deeper, you probably remember the teasing, fun and jokes inflicted onto this kid, right? Well, The Perks Of Being A Wallflower addresses all of that, presented in a very subtle and witty way. Charlie the main hero is that very bullied boy in school in a desperate need for help, a desperate need to get out of the dead end he seems to be going to. There are also these perpetual memories of his aunt that keep coming back to him as though they are haunting him making it even harder to socialize with people, thus being left an outsider at home and school.
Guess that at this point you are like, "so what?!", right? Bear with me because there is much to contemplate on here. In fact, the movie poses a deep question, that of what makes some people stand out as neurotic, freaky and so on. Is it their appearance, their personality or perhaps there is something else that everyone seems to be missing out on. Perhaps some of us can't deal with memories we forget from childhood, which usually come back to us and influence our present reality in ways which are completely unexpected. It can be a knot or a mundane thing like not being able to deal with this or that situation in an appropriate manner don't want to go into the details, but I'm sure that most of you will identify with what I'm talking about.
Then there is sexuality and the way most kids (sorry teenagers, but you're kids, too) deal with their sexuality this days. Be it worries of first sex or in general the way kids have to cope with this issue. Indeed, The perks of being a wallflower takes all  that and blows your mind with notions of child-hood trauma, introversion and of course love...

100 posts

Hip hip, hurray!!! I've made it guys!!! Wrote my 100th post and it's time to celebrate. I know that usually my blog is about everything else, but me. However, this time I really want to concentrate on what a "molodets"(Russian for good boy) I am. Actually, never thought I will reach this far when I began the blog, cuz I usually give up on things halfway through. Nevertheless, I met an audience that was willing and interested in what I do, what I write and that really keeps me going. So, want to take this opportunity to say thanks once more and express my gratitude to all of you. Some people say that www.eyongdenis.com is not personal enough, doesn't show the real me. Well, that may be true but bare with me all this will come soon. You see I prefer talking about things that touch me deeply and that hopefully will touch others as well. There were many posts of that nature so far, but I'm sure most of you are a bit lazy to look for them in different tabs, that's why I've made some sort of selection highlighting what I may consider some of the best posts I wrote.

Blue Valentine

Relationships, so say they suck, some say that it's the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to them, some say that it's not worth it at all and others think of it as a cross they have to carry for all their lives. If you ask me, my answer would be much more complicated than the blurbs I wrote earlier, so I guess we will keep that for another day. What matters now is thus movie right here called Blue Valentine. A movie that in my opinion attempts to answer some questions regarding this issue of love and so on.

Despite the fact that I began this post by portraying this film as some sort of romantic film and so on, it doesn't end there it actually runs much deeper. In short you could call this movie a typical boy meets girl story which goes bad. Nothing special some might say and they'll probably be right. The thing is what's always been interesting in relations going wrong is not the fact that they go wrong, but the reasons why this happens. Indeed, the reasons can range from the most intricate to almost nothing. Just have some sort of retrospective of your "relationship timeline" sure you'll find some crazy stuff without even having to look in the details of each relationship, right? Well, Blue Valentine is not about crazy, rather about reality and when I mean reality, I'm talking about the sad reality of most relationships. The reality in which most people all so often tend to fail when it comes to mutual understanding, respect and love.

As in most posts about movies I can go on boring you out with the amazing performance of the cast (Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams are indeed great as a couple) or go on spoiling the plot for which these days is a taboo on its own and guess there are what we call trailers for that. I would rather go on exploiting the excellent issue being set forth I this movie that of surviving marriage and keeping the flame as bright as possible. Indeed, this film is about the way people give up on their relationship, the way people sometimes tend to forget the way they fell in love and everything was bright and crystal clear about the way they think of each other, the way they perceive each other and of course the ways they respect each other. In Blue Valentine, this is all shown and presented in a way that really works.

So, if you guys are in for a moving experience without the touchy feely aspect of such movies, Blue Valentine is highly recommended. Looking forward to your thoughts about the movie, romance and marriage.

#Japanify

Hello everyone this will be a short one as it is a #Hashtag post. The thing that strikes me most about this Japanification of multiplication is that I didn't know about it earlier. Indeed I have the idea that this notion of Japanese culture being a desert territory for many people is not a myth. In fact I think along some cultures like the ones in Africa and some other remote or underdeveloped places, Japan seems to be one of the most mysterious countries. Maybe it's difficulty of language or something else, but the fact remains a fact there is little to be said about this great nation except the regular clichés of sushi, sumo, salary - men, manga, video games and so on.

This multiplication method, which I find absolutely mind blowing by the way, made me think of what else Japanese people do differently, about their system of education, relation to politics, money and much more. Think it's fundamentally different from what we have here. At least it should be considering the cultural differences I saw in India. But we will leave that for later, when I will visit this country of the rising sun.

So, talking about this multiplication they have. I for one was shocked by the fact that there are still people out there who multiply in a different way from what we have as standard this days. Of course I knew that during the history of mankind there were many ways of taking on multiplication, but this...

Crazy right? The question is, do they really do all this in the way they show it in the video or it happens on a mental level as in they portray all this diagrams and drawings in their mind? Or even more, is this method more effective than what we have at present? And one more thing what's the point of multiplying great numbers in the mind when we've all got something called a calculator these days?

Lots of questions, looking forward to getting some answers.

Spirit Science

Do you want to go cosmic? Do you agree that the religion of the future will be a cosmic religion? Well, the thing is that there are many people out there who seem to believe in the fact that it should be and though I'm not all that into the esoteric realm any more it does have some appeal to me and here is a video and post explaining why it should have a bigger audience than it is the case now.

Sure you probably didn't watch all episodes before continuing with the reading, so allow me to do some sort of introduction to what spirit science is, what it brought to my life and hopefully will bring to yours. Don't worry I'm not trying to enrol you in some sort of sect, just trying to portray and showcase an alternative point of view just like I did with the post regarding Kyamatica. The only difference is that Spirit Science takes this approach and brings it to a larger audience. Indeed, by portraying the spiritual realm in a "cartoonish" way may sound or look somewhat de phased, but what you get as a result is a better perception of the information they are trying to get through.

Whenever I bring up the topic of spirit science or something of that nature, my friends and close ones always think of it as of some sort of end of the world scenario or something. Well the truth is that it's not. I for one see this from the standpoint that in the world we live in there might be two ways or directions in which we can evolve as a civilisation on the whole. The first is a technological world which I portrayed in posts like 2045: A New Era for Humanity where humanity will finally embrace technology and move on as a civilisation into a technological realm. Though this might sound perfect for people like me (remember me wanting to be a cyborg and so on), the reality is quite different. In fact, society as a whole constantly reminds us about the fact that there is something out there that is unexplainable if you approach it from the standpoint of logical perception. Something that can be understood only if you look at the spiritual aspect of things.

When I say spiritual realm of things I'm trying to say that there's a need to believe that there is something godly in all of us, something greater than war, religion, pollution, technology and so on. Something that binds us and gives us that very feeling of oneness we all so desperately stove for when we try to create communities, social networks, families, nations and so on. Looks like the human being is perpetually driven towards unification rather than destruction and division.

So, if you guys are into opening up your understanding of life or in general want to discover a new side of "the story" feel free.

A self-made writer

It's been a long time that a lot of my friends and acquaintances have been longing for something a bit more personal from me as regards to my writing and so on. And being a lazy kind of person I never made it through the first five pages of writing. Convinced at this point that the best way will be to present several aspects of my personality. Hope you bear with me, this is a long one. Who knows might turn out to be a novel one day.

As everyone there where several moments in my life when I perceived myself as this or that person. From "nerdy freak" to "rasta", from being a DJ to opting for teaching. All this transitions were influenced by several things, but I guess we will keep those for another time. Now I really want to share my writing experience with you and will start with the fact that I call myself a self made writer in the sense that I came to writing in quite an uncanny way. The thing for me has always been arguing and debating, so it is this aspect of my personality that played a decisive role when it comes to becoming a writer. Hopefully, what follows might give you a better insight as to what I mean.

I always remember myself as being the kind of person who made it a question of principle to stand firm in defending what he deems as truth, defending the very idea of common sense which is so lacking in contemporary society. But when it comes to confronting an opposing point of view I always felt challenged by verbal expression. In fact, I always assumed that having a written record of your thoughts and feelings, well laid out and structured is the best way to get your ideas through. Well, in my case it's far better than doing it verbally. So maybe that's the reason why I dived into writing and expressing myself via this media, but I think it doesn't end there.

This love for written expression led to me creating this blog www.eyongdenis.com and though I'm not a show off at all I would like to say that I'm quite satisfied with the result I get from it, despite the fact that there hasn't been much feedback yet. Indeed, setting up this blog and actually providing it with constant material and thought, has been challenging on its own, but as the saying goes, "there's no limit to perfection", right? And due to this perpetual search for perfection, I've come to the sad conclusion that I would probably never be able to call myself a writer in his own right. Nevertheless, I keep on doing my thing and would love to continue doing it, just for the simple fact that I think that I'm good at it and want to be even better. And the idea of having a tiny bit of influence as to what concerns the minds of my audience, be it my friends or you fellow readers, is absolutely phenomenal. What I mean by this last bid is that only in sharing our thoughts and experiences do we, in my opinion, get that notion of oneness that we seek throughout our existence. In short, I think "writing" makes it easier to go through life and to get a deeper understanding of who we are as a person and who other people are. After all what's the point of living if you've got nothing to offer from an intellectual point of view.

So, that's the writer in me and how I came to being one. There are other aspects of my life where I can call myself a self-made person, but I guess that's another story for another day. Stay tuned and as usual don't forget that all that matters is "peace, love and unity"...
