Eyes Wide Shut

Hello guys, had another "re watch" the other day and what a movie to re watch, indeed. It's none other than Eyes Wide Shut. Remember this movie? Well, surprisingly enough, this is one of those cult movies I completely forgot about.

So, it all happened during a celebration we recently had at work. I was talking to a student of mine and she said that her favourite movie was Eyes Wide Shut . And I was like, "Oh yeah I also love this movie" (saying that I knew that I really loved this film, but didn't really remember why). However, we moved on talking about the fact that it was the last movie of Stanley Kubrick and about how he was such a great director and all. Nothing new at this point, but as we went on discussing the merits of this or that technique Kubrick uses in the movie and the way the scenario is incredibly gripping and mind blowing, I got the feeling that I have got to watch this movie once more. Just a question of answering the gaps in perception I had regarding this movie.

So this re watch finally happened yesterday and it was a fun re watch, indeed. First of all, there was this talk we had with my wife about whether the book Traumnovelle (Dream Story) by Arthur Schnitzler (book on which the movie is based by the way) is better than the movie? And believe it or not her answer was, "Don't really remember much of it". Crazy, right?

Then we had this friends of ours come over and there was nothing else left to do, other than having a viewing of Eyes Wide Shut. Taking into account that both of our guests haven't watched it either. So, found the movie and were all set to have the thrilling evening we all so missed (I mean it's been a long time that I had the opportunity of watching something that mind blowing).

As the movie unrolled, I was realising the level of mastery Kubrick had. What a master of cinematography he was and of course what a startling performance he got out of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Don't know if you remember, but there was this polemic about Kidman and Cruise really working to their fullest during the shooting. Wouldn't be surprised if it's so because the acting they pulled off is really mind blowing, indeed. The movie goes on describing and outlining the ongoing problems of fidelity in a marriage easily shattered by a pseudo love affair confession.

Lots of things I could tell you guys but don't want to spoil (the videos in the post will, though).Just one thing, though, everyone who's watching got that very "wow" effect you expect from a movie with such calibre. Eyes Wide Shut,a movie full of sex, intrigue, suspense and much more. So, if you're into a mind blowing evening, guess you know watch you've got to do. Do enjoy...
