Mars-One

I am sure all of you are well aware of the fact that humanity is really striving to conquer outer space, almost at any cost. I mean, we’ve almost done it all and there is so much more coming. Think it’s no secret for most of you guys that there is a project called, right? As it is written on the official site, "Mars One is a not-for-profit foundation that will establish a permanent human settlement on Mars. Human settlement on Mars is possible today with existing technologies. Mars One mission plan integrates components that are well tested and readily available from industry leaders worldwide. The first footprint on Mars and lives of the crew thereon will captivate and inspire generations; it is this public interest that will help finance this human mission to Mars". If your first reaction to this is, "holy crap!!!", then I welcome you guys to my club. Do they really think that this is feasible? I mean, I know that we all as a species have gone quite far in technology and so on, but are we ready to colonise other planets? This is something I thought will happen sometime in the distant future, when we will find the solution to global hunger, poverty and war. Definitely not in 2025, when the first crew landing is supposed to happen. That's right 2025!!! That’s like 12 from now. The question is, will they be ready by this time and what’s even more important will they be able to actually land safely on Mars. I for one think they won’t.
For starters, as it is the case with all things that fly there might be a problem with landing. As you all know there have been situations earlier when so many flying objects even planes have crashed during landing. In connection to this, we can easily assume that there is a high chance of this happening with Mars-One. I’m not trying to cast a spell or something on the whole mission or something, it’s just that this kind of risk exists and it’s really pointless trying to ignore it. No matter how hard researchers and scientist try to perfect all aspects of such a mission, bad luck is a reality and it will be a real pity if actual human beings die because of this. Moreover, there is the fact that there has never been a successful landing on any other planet other than the moon, but this is still something that has to be prove, right? It’s okay if you guys believe in the moon landing, but I don’t and I don’t see any reason why this should be something that can show that landing on another planet is possible.

Then there is the trip itself. I remind you guys that the closest distance between Earth and Mars is reached every two years and even so this distance is about 55,000km that’s about 150-300 days of journey time considering the technology we have today. Now taking this into account, don’t you guys think that this might be one hell of a traumatising experiences for “the astronauts” going in for these kinds of missions. I mean, this is almost the same time that is given to people for committing minor crimes. I think it’s quite obvious that being in a confined space, on a trip to the unknown can be quite gruelling on morale and so on. If I were to be in such conditions I would freak out, to say the least.

Then there are the capsules. You low the ones they are going to use as habitat on Mars. Quick question, have they tested them? I mean, have they tested them in real Mars conditions? Think the answer is no, right? So, why the hell are they so sure that there won’t be any sort of malfunctioning or something of that nature? We live in a world of robotic innovation and enhanced AI. Don’t you think it will be a better idea to use all these technology available right now and send all these in order to colonise this goddamn planet. These will be even a better idea from the standpoint of creating the whole life support system which they are planning to implement in order to make the planet habitable and able to support life. After all, if they are planning to create some kind of greenhouse, this would probably be best made in some sort of automated way, right? Is human sacrifice that necessary?

So, taking into consideration all these factors, I seriously doubt the fact that they will have any success whatsoever. Moreover as I said before, there is no need for human sacrifice when we are talking about space exploration. Is it really worth it? As fancy as all this Mars colonisation might be, the necessity for all this is yet to be proven. In addition to this there are so many other things that people can spend all this money on, isn’t it?
