Old Boy

Do you believe in karma? Strange way to introduce Old Boy, a movie that will make you believe in it. Yes, you heard that right Old Boy!!! This one right here is definitely in my top cinema experiences ever, but don't know why, for a reason yet to be found didn't have time to share this experience with you guys here in this blog. I mean it’s not that often that you have an opportunity to come into contact with pure genius. In fact, just like the way The Tree of Life, presents the audience with some sort of surreal point of view on life and childhood, Old Boy does the same with revenge. So, here it comes, Old Boy coming straight at ya!!! A movie which hopefully will change your life and your opinion of Korean cinema. If you ever had one at all.

Old Boy is one of those films which can be approached from various standpoints. First of all it is of course an action movie on fire. And when I mean action I'm not talking Transformers or some other type of gibberish crap of this nature, but rather Django style action, well paced and bloody as hell. Awesome, right?
Then there's the whole philosophical/revenge seeking feel to it that makes the movie so deep that you get engaged as soon as you get passed the first couple of minutes. Without being a spoiler and everything the story follows the faith of Oh Dae-su locked up for 15 years in a room for reasons yet to be known. Then he's released and tries to work out the reason his captor did this to him. This might sound as a usual story we get in majority of movies, right? But the thing is that Old Boy goes beyond that. And finally makes the audience think about the consequences of their actions. In fact, many people out  there don't think about the way they can hurt someone, most people take others for granted, think that things they tell this or that person don't have an effect on what he thinks of you. Don't really influence his perception of you. Many people out there think that most people never seek revenge and as we all know revenge is a meal best eaten cold.

Moving on and as you can see from the clip above, Old Boy is not just you regular action film, but a violent one for that matter. Though this might frighten some of you, I think that all this violence is in fact a way of highlighting the main dilemmas the main heroes face. So, if you are into a life changing experience that will make you think about yourself and much more, Old Boy has got some doors to open...
